Walter Stahl was born and grew up in North Germany/Hamburg and was fortunate enough to have been practicing and making visual art continuously since his childhood.
Underlying interests and drivers for Walter's compulsion to keep making art are:
Universal, joyous love and fascination for Life and a love/hate relationship with Humans and their activities, philosophy, quantum physics, evolutionary biology and Zivilisationskritik.
Since moving to and living in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1998, another two major aspects have gained momentum in Stahl's practice: Living and working within the polarity of being a naĆÆve tourist and detached ethnographer of his adopted home, Croqland*.
Favourite subject matter: Landscape, Insects, feathers, seeds, things that are lying around, left for dead, cars, Croqland*.
Favourite media/materials: Paper (old), camera, scanner, black ink, maps.
Since finishing formal qualifications in 2001, Walter has maintained an independent artistic studio practice.
His photo-media art has won a number of state and national art awards and his held in public, private and corporate collections in Australia and Germany.
* "Croqland" is not it's real name, but was used to protect the identity of Stahl's adopted homeland.
