The concept behind this work is about stepping outside our comfort zone and moving forward in life. ‘Cutting Through’ and its companion piece named ‘Spinning Out’ (sold) are akin to the political maxim ‘crash through or crash’. Each of the Perspex slides can be seen as a moment in time that measures our individual growth and progress. This sculpture reminds us that to experience a life lived we have to take chances – sometimes these risks pay off, other times not.
'Cutting Through' was a finalist in the Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition 2017 in the Yarra Valley, Victoria (See second image).
This sculpture is comprised of fifteen 2 dimensional paintings on clear Perspex/acrylic sheet that are layered to give the illusion of a solid, floating 3 dimension object. The form of the sculpture changes dramatically depending on the angle you’re viewing it
The size of the artwork is 30cm(w) x 30cm(h) x 30cm(d). The sculpture comes with a protective acrylic case that measures 31cm(w) x 31cm(h) x 31cm(d). The white wooden base measures 33.5cm(w) x 3cm(h) x 33.5cm(d).
