Stephanie Clifford Hosking has been painting since she was a little girl. Her Yuwaalaraay (language group) family come from a group of Aboriginal people in and around Angledool NSW, close to the QLD border just above Lightning Ridge. Her Great Nan Fanny White was born on the banks of the Narran River.

Stephanie’s skin totem is the Wiidhaa (Bower Bird) and her other totem is the Balabalaa (butterfly). This means she has a cultural and spiritual connection and responsibility to flowers and plants as well as birds and insects, their ecological partners. This is part of her dreaming and forms the basis of most of her work as she tells the stories of nature and plants and animals in her own unique way.

Stephanie is one of ten siblings, born is Queensland and now residing in Bangalow NSW where she creates her art, writes and cuts hair.
