These composite images are made up of various photographs taken by me to create a new uncluttered slightly surreal landscape, generally somewhere you wouldn't expect to find it, an ‘un-scene’ if you like. Elements are selected for similar lighting, street furniture and clutter removed in Photoshop, and toned to blend in with their new environments. Most images belong to a 3 part themed series, have a white border and include a certificate which tells the story and inspiration behind each image.
Each print has a digital signature bottom corner of the image and a white border for framing.
So many cute machiya, cafes, and teahouses found in the Gion District of Kyoto, are hidden amongst the street clutter and powerlines. By removing them and placing them in a plainer environment, ie the snow, they become more noticeable, each with their own grandeur and beauty.
I have added a few extras such as pine trees, Japanese maples, vending machines, streetlamps and lanterns. The snow scenes were photographed in Hokkaido just prior to a snowstorm.
Snow Problem
This teahouse was found in the Gion District of Kyoto, looking at home in the snow along with a Japanese Black Pine tree. The snow is over for the season, but a dollop remains on top of the building slowly melting off.
