Saren Dobkinsโ work is of an expressionist and contemporary style that is multi-layered in meaning. She explores conceptual constructs of who we are and how we interact within the world. She also tends to explore the nuances and tensions of personal relationships between lovers, friends, children and within ourselves.
Originally from Zambia, Africa, she introduces the myriad of visual inputs and experiences she was exposed to as a child. These include a tendency towards bold, primary colours, strong dramatic forms, a sculptural weight to objects and the abstracted representation of the figure to express the โstoryโ. Her style is bold, the lines directional and lyrical.
A professional artist for over 35 years, her work frequently uses the figure and head as the basis for exploring states of mind and journeys towards a greater sense of awareness. Having traveled and lived in many places, her references are broad and global; as a mother, her concerns for meaningful and strong relationships an ongoing theme. Her current work and studio blog can be viewed on www.sarenart.com.
Saren has participated in over 30 exhibitions, over the 30 years she has been practicing as a professional artist. Her work has been collected by both private and public collectors in USA, UK, New Zealand, Brisbane and Melbourne. Her work is in the private collections of the University of Queensland, The South Australian Museum and Geelong Grammar School.
