I have been a professional actor for 50 years, doing plays, films and lots of TV. I have always loved painting, visiting galleries and hanging around with artists, and painted a few canvases now and then to hang on the wall. An artist friend came to stay and asked why I had never tried to sell any, so I took a 120 x 90 to a local gallery and it sold the following week. In the next three years, 53 works sold, in galleries and in exhibitions. Then along came the GFC, and buying paintings seemed to be the last thing on anyone's mind; but they were happy enough with the distraction of a good play! I had been selling through major established galleries in Brisbane, The Gold Coast and North Sydney and was just talking to a gallery owner, to place some work again, who said Blue Thumb was a great way to sell online. I prefer to work with oil paint on medium to large canvas (cotton/linen) or pastel on paper or board. I am attracted to images that tell a story or evoke emotion and involve people, and I am fascinated by light and colour and the way those elements can be enhanced. So my work is figurative, sometimes with multilayered images, but not abstract.
