Paul is a self- taught artist represented in the Queensland Art Gallery and private collections. He works in the studio in a classical method with a contemporary edge, but is closely involved in the outdoor subject every day through photography. In paint he works on the the ability to get the same directional marks with the brush as with drawing media. In order to capture this gesture of the subject, brush quality and the consistency of the paint are the variables. He uses natural hair brushes with fluid paint. He recently finished a painting of trees , and is now working on a subject of large rocks in a dry creekbed. The challenge with such a subject with a large number of individual objects, is to capture the order they have assumed due to the pressure of water during the wet season.
