This artwork was exhibited as one of the key pieces in a recent exhibition called 'Sanctuary'. It was based loosely on the ideas I gathered after re-reading The Secret Garden; our connection to our environment and how we are intrinsically connected. I painted this whilst on an artist residency in the Adelaide Hills and made many studies in the garden space at the back of the studio. I noticed how in a short space of time the garden appeared to erupt with new found colours and shapes only to evolve again in a few days. I wanted the composition of this painting to connect with the idea of walking down the garden path and noticing these changes in the garden space but for it to be purposefully be captured at the time of dusk when it seemed most mysterious. Please note- this painting is framed in a Tasmanian oak frame (see exhibition wall hanging)
