Nathalie Dahlgren is a Swedish autodidactic artist based in the northern rivers of NSW, Australia. She draws her inspiration from her own experiences as well as Scandinavian sagas, ancient art findings, nature, music, and culture. Continuously inspired by the storytelling mythos of her Scandinavian roots, Nathalie brings these stories into a modern context through palette and movement. Her earlier works were inspired by the feminine form, and a woman’s spiritual journey to remain in contact with the wild within, in a world of restrictions.
In her most recent body of work, she explored the concept of origin and the power of connecting to one's roots through abstract expression, colours, texture, and lines that leave the viewer free to explore and interpret. This was then exhibited in a successful solo exhibition at Northern Rivers Community Gallery in 2022.
She is currently expanding her research into this field of ancestral connection and exploring her place in relation to ancient and modern society.
Nathalie is also a singer and a dancer; her art is intimately connected with these two passions. She is a co-creator of the dark-folk electronic music project called “Vardlokkr”, which has influences of her Scandinavian roots. “Vardlokkr” released an EP in July 2023.
