My job as a botanical artist is 'creative conservation'!
Here in Western Australia we have one of 32 globally biodiverse hotspots with some flora species not found any where else in the world!!!!
It is up to us to care and conserve this amazing flora. So while I cannot get out there to save every species I can use my art to bring attention to them. So why not bring a little of our biodiverse flora into your home for safe keeping.
The Banksia has to be one of the most inspiring native flowers.
I am permanently in awe of them and marvel at their amazing architectural shape.
I love its split personality, one minute it is blooming with bright colours and the next it fades into a gnarly rustic pod.
This artwork shows the banksia at its blooming best, dressed in its bright colours.
It is captured sparkling in the full morning sun.
Their elongated leaves are like no other as they wrap around the flowers as if protecting them.
Several years ago I started a series on Banksias and it hasn't stopped. Here is the latest installation .
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it.
