This colourful, Australian native bird illustration features a vibrant, Rainbow bee-eater (Merops ornatus) perched on a branch. It can be found throughout mainland Australia and often found in open forests, woodlands and shrublands, and cleared areas, near water. They fly swiftly, catching bees and wasps on the wing. Nests are long, excavated tunnels in sandy soil with a grass-lined chamber.
Artwork is hand drawn using waterproof pigment liners, then select areas are painted with watercolour. Sections are intentionally left with no colour, to add a modern, design element. Coloured pencil helps to define, create detail and texture to each piece. Gouache is used for various highlights. High quality, 300gsm watercolour paper. Sprayed with permanent matt finish to protect the artwork.
