From my, “Once Upon A Table” series, “Winning Friends With Salad” features a woven wooden salad bowl with salad servers that evvvvveryone seemed to own, once upon a time. When I was a little girl, as a family we often went to BBQ’s and there was usually an impressive salad made by a very clever person, nesting loftily in a wooden bowl, with a Praise Italian salad dressing by it’s side.. As I grew older I took pride in my own salad making and loved to impress guests, hence the title, Winning Friends With Salad.
This image also represents addressing the confusion and sadness I felt as a child, when my family broke down, and we stopped going to BBQ’s and having friends and family over, salads included. In contrast, the bright and happy design is my way of remembering and celebrating the good times and moving towards healing.
The wooden bowl is also representative of my childhood, particularly birthday parties and special occasions as I remember them being filled with lollies and chips.
This is a digitally drawn artwork that is printed on a long lasting plastic composite using professional UV inks that are full of depth and colour. The background is embellished with oil paint in certain places, resulting in a work that appears to subtly move and change depending on the lighting and position. This is then housed in a sleek and lightweight aluminum frame, resulting in a unique and modern statement artwork that will last you many years to come.
My Once Upon A Table series is a collection of kitchen scenes, foods and items to incite a feeling of joy and nostalgia. These images are from my childhood memories and are a way of me connecting with, understanding and ultimately healing from the childhood trauma I experienced.
