I'm very excited to be jumping back into wildlife painting, this time with oil paints. I'm working on more spontaneous brushwork, imbuing life and movement into the subject so they become more than simple 2D paintings.
This is a long-billed corella, which I'm sure many of my fellow Aussies are familiar with. The challenge here was ensuring that the white of the feathers wasn't a solid emptiness, but filled with warm and cool shadows showing the movement and lay of feathers.
It's a cheeky fellow, and I'm very pleased with it.
The painting was done with a boarder intentionally added. The painted section of the paper measures 18x26.5cm.
