Australian born, NSW Central Coast based artist best known for watercolour
portraits of Australian indigenous children. Other genres include, still life, and
landscapes.
Fresh out of Graphic Design collage at 18, 30 something years ago, I first worked
alongside Ken Done, which is probably partly responsible for my approach to art. I
have always been passionate about drawing, and it is with this foundation,
everything I create, begins.
I have travelled Australia extensively and continue to, exploring and gathering
material and inspiration, reflected in my work.
My use of colour is inspired by a love of Australia and itโs intense, textural and
earthy palette. My paintings represent the richness and beauty of Australia, its
history, people, culture, flora and fauna.
Working in various media including oils and watercolour, I am fascinated by
shape, form and colour interaction, not only of the subject but of the negative
space also. It is the negative spaces I think that sometimes intrigue me the most.
My style is loose and suggestive and sometimes a little naรฏve.
Painting still life and landscapes, enables me the freedom to explore more
abstract patterns, shapes, composition and negative spaces.
For me, painting is a form of story telling, it is my way of communicating an
emotion, a moment, an atmosphere, a memory, a richness, the light and so on.
My work has been associated with a number of organisations including the
Australian Literacy Numeracy Foundation or ALNF, 60Thousand, Yarn, Concord
Hospital, the Cancer Council, Dollars for Dust and The Fred Hollows Foundation,
through fundraising or donations.
I have exhibited in a number of solo and group exhibitions and have also been an
exhibiting member of the esteemed NSW Royal Art Society, my paintings can be
found in public and private collections both internationally and nationally.
