This vibrant work was painted plein air on location by the Gwydir River Bank, Bingara, Western NSW.
On the first day of a five day plein air trip, Kathryn discovered this majestic white river gum strikingly lit by the fading afternoon sun and made all that more dramatic with the spectacular shadowy hills and bushland behind.
These situations with the sunshine evaporating can be to an artist's advantage, creating definite strong brushwork and a limited palette which in turn creates great vibrancy and energy to the work which she feels this painting has definitely captured these attributes.
Gwydir River Gum is painted on board in mixed media of acrylic, ink and oil stick and custom framed in a beautiful white satin timber floating frame.
