Kathleen is an Australian abstract expressionist artist living and working on the Gold Coast. With a passion for working on large-scale abstract paintings her beautifully calming works are inspired by the country’s picturesque natural environment. She studied at Brisbane Institute of Art, ANU Art School Canberra and Parsons School of Design New York City. She has exhibited across the globe with her works being held in private and public collections in 15 countries. Kathleen is a prize finalist, with her work featured on the national television home renovation series THE BLOCK 2019 and 2020.
Kathleen’s pieces bring the outdoors indoors, with her gentle pinks, dynamic blues and turquoise greens adding a sense of peace to people’s lives. Kathleen has a deep connection to mother nature and can only explain her practice as a need to paint everyday, expressing impressions, feelings and experiences in her daily life. Rhee’s personal style has an atmospheric, powerful, mesmerising touch that she achieves by using subtle colour, depth and descriptive detail.
Born and rise on the coastal hinterland between the Gold Coast and Brisbane she grew up spending all of her free time out in nature. When Kathleen is not painting she is spending time outdoors, at the beach, in the rainforest or looking up at the sky. Colours of her natural surrounds and the sense of calm and joy it brings is what inspires her work. Kathleen combines colour staining, sketching, splattering, layering and painting with a brush to create her works. She enjoys working on a variety of canvas, paper with acrylic, oils and ink.
