Karin Ward is a contemporary artist living in the Northern Beaches in Sydney, Australia; working in Mixed Media and Digital Photography.
Her work is informed by her background in Graphic design and inspired by her love for her environment, both mountains and sea.
โThe world to me has always been an exciting visual playground, where the smallest shadow or softest hue has been my constant distraction, rendering me motionless and breathless in wonder. I am compelled to be with nature and for a time was compelled to paint it.โ
Karinโs enjoyment of the process of traditional art-making by hand, as well as mixing it with digital photography as an expansive and exciting tool, is evident in the work that she produces.
Her most recent works, represent her current pre-occupation with the profound strength, beauty and grace of the female form. In portraying these qualities, she seeks an intuitive, uncontrolled process which would lay bare the media and the process; allowing freedom, preferring minimalism.
She focuses on the quality, line, shape and elemental form in order to portray the pure qualities of strength and beauty inherent in all women.
The eternal bond between women and between women and nature; the goddess and the warrior in all women are central themes in her work.
Karin also likes to blur the lines between the artist and the viewer and the subject of the work.
During the Covid Lockdown periods, Karin's work became more confronting and Conceptual, expressing the emotions felt by herself and the collective.
Her figurative work evolved with more simplicity and an emphasis on mark-making emerged.
Her work became bolder in its' expression of universal themes through classical nude subject matter.
She began journaling and writing meditations and incorporating texts into her work.
