Jodie Gorman is an Australian born painter based in Brisbane whose artworks are held in private and corporate collections both in Australia and internationally. She is enrolled in the Master of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University with expected completion in 2025. A self-proclaimed ‘painting junkie’, the artist uses a plethora of paint mediums whereby each composition is an opportunity to make sense of her identity and place in this world. Gorman has spent the last twenty years producing large format vertical pieces embracing a passionate and intuitive approach with Visual Art.
Originally a co-artist of Cherry Contemporary Art, the artist has worked solo since 2015 where she has continued with her arts practice as well as educate young children. Gorman's current work captures whimsical and poignant moments in time that navigate a way forward from here. Themes within the artist’s compositions may move between natural print installations painted in reverse on Perspex, to luscious paintings of flowers in oils on linen. An avid admirer of American born modernist painter Georgia O’Keefe and her sensuous oil paintings, as well as American born artist Helen Frankenthaler who produced pigment rich colour field paintings, Gorman is often not shy with her choice and use of colour.
Choosing themes that she wishes to explore, the artist uses symbolism in each composition that evokes a sense of story and leaves the viewer with space to relate to her consciousness - whether a composition leans into surrealism or abstractionism rests with serendipitous art making processes at the time. The pleasure Gorman's artwork brings to each of its owners is deeply treasured.
