CERES
This portrait was painted from life over a number of sittings, and further embellished with an adornment of flowers from nature, and the colour green to represent 'Ceres' the Roman goddess of fertility and agriculture. Ceres is the patron of farmers and protector of commoners, and her blessings were sought for crops to ensure a bountiful harvest.
This year my painting practice has looked at the environment, both literally and metaphorically to pose my own questions to evoke discussion and change on issues pertaining to environment that the world is currently being challenged on.
Olivia is a professional life model that I work with regularly, with dark exotic features that I thought lent themselves to the identity of 'Ceres'.
