A still life painting representing a crab and some other household items. I was inspired to paint a crab after extensively viewing paintings by some of my favourite dutch painters - Willem Kaalf and Willem Claesz.
As with all of my still life paintings, i chose to keep the composition fairly simple, and use black to achieve the overall feeling of the painting, while choosing subjects or items with vibrant colours to give the painting contrast.
For this painting I chose to lean in to classical European styles of painting, while adding the quintessential Australian spin that is the mud crab.
The painting is sealed with one coat of Gamvar satin varnish and is ready to hang.
