I have reduced the price of this painting due to the effect of Corona Virus on the world economy and my income. I am hoping it helps some buyers to beautify their homes in this current situation and be able to support a sole trader - artist (that's me), at the same time.
Prices will return to normal when the world does.

'Bio Bloom Darkfield VI' continues in my fascination with the minutiae of life and aquatic themes. It belongs to my ‘Bio Bloom’ Series exploring the sublime beauty of microscopic life and the natural world as I am deeply inspired by nature and the forces that shape it. All the tiny fragments of the universe and patterns of life. Cellular forms, fluid, skins, body forms, minuscule plant growth and of course I can never escape the Oceans pull on me. I grew up in and by the sea. Bioluminescent organisms, magnificent corals, seaweeds, algae, shell forms and all manner of sea creatures from my memories of Snorkelling around the back beach at Flinders. All these things I think about and look at when I am creating these paintings.
'Bio Bloom Darkfield VI' can be viewed as miniscule cell life just as easily as an underwater sea garden with drifting corals and anemone blooms. Ultimately it is about our sense of awe and wonder at these miraculous building blocks of life. And then our reflection on the fragility of these vulnerable natural worlds and our precarious position as guardians of this earth.
The organic shapes and motifs I often use allude to pulsating growth formations, cellular life forms and to the beautiful otherworldliness of the microscopic building blocks of life. The variation in the size and shape of the forms in this painting moves our eyes attention in and out of focus across the picture plane. I really enjoy that your eyes get to explore and discover subtle hidden shapes and patterns within the painted surface. Some fun for the eye and the mind.
I have gone a little minimalist on this painting with-out losing a sense of fun and intrigue. The calm subdued palette with bright creamy whites and subtle pink creates an illuminated dynamic area cross the dark field. There is a translucency and texture to the layers that is enhanced by the dark background. The painting has a gentle colour vibration and sits beautifully on the wall. The sophisticated black background creates a kind of otherworldly tranquillity, the perfect backdrop for the fragile fragments of nature and cell-like forms drifting across the surface. It is a meditative piece reminiscent of the soul at rest.
So often it is all about looking and feeling! Dark-field microscopy is a light technique used in microscopic photography to illuminate the focus of the scientific subject from the field around it. I have always adored the drama of high contrast dark and light. So much so that earlier on pre-Art School even, my all my drawings resembled X-rays, I then started drawing inspiration from actual X-rays. Now I find it speaks of our circulating Covid19 medical pandemic, genomics (genetic tracing) and scientific research for a cure. Which are so much about looking hard at something.
What I enjoy most about my paintings is they make people smile with a sense of wonderment and feelings of happiness as well as giving their beautiful walls intrigue, finesse and a talking point for years to come.
This one is part of a series that all look stunning hanging together. Keep a look out on my other listings titled ‘Bio Bloom Dark-field & Sanguine-Field ..’. More Coming soon
