'Hold' features a larger possum with a baby possum holding it's back and another small possum attached to flora beneath. Emanating from the realistically rendered is a stylised version of the trio made of colourful shapes.
The stylised / abstract version represents the dynamic possibilities of living creatures indicating a perspective that like humans, animals have a rich inner world. The composition is organised in such a way that the abstract version of one baby possum embraces the realistically rendered version of it's sibling: the physical world holding space for the intangible psychological or emotional world of another.
Traditional oil painting techniques were used to create this piece. The artworks visual vocabulary freely borrows from the traditions of realism, to more modernist surrealist and cubist influences.
