Claire Crook is a multidisciplinary abstract artist working in paint, print, installation and sculpture. Utilising a visual language of colour and symbol Claire examines connections to self, nature and lived experience. New works include a move into sculpture, with Claire using a process of cut-outs and assemblage in the tradition of Jean Arp and Henri Matisse. For the current "Don't I Know You?" series Claire explores construction of persona; that aspect of someone’s character that is presented to or perceived by others.
Previous series have covered varied aspects of relationships from those observed as harmonious through to those characterised by disquiet. Accordingly, her 2021 “Signs of Life” series expresses optimism and connectedness through colour and balanced composition. Whereas, for her 2020 “Sonopanic” series, Claire expanded into installation, sound and text to explore dogma espoused by aspects of the media and its disorienting impacts on community.
