STRANGE DAYS INDEED
Two years ago COVID wasnโt even a word, now itโs part of our daily lives. Who would have believed that after two years we would still be living with it?
In this series, I have used cutlery as a metaphor for the circumstances we have all found ourselves in. It has been a testing time and it has shown some real short comings in modern life. Here, I want to highlight the loneliness, uncertainty and anxiety of the past couple of years.
The use of limited colours highlights the monotony of everyday living in lockdown. A broken or absent horizon indicates the uncertainty of daily life, the inability to make firm plans or an unforeseeable future. Containers depict quarantine and isolation, physically keeping the individual, family and friends apart.
This artwork is mostly acrylic paint with collaged papers, pencil, graphite and/or crayon. It has been finished with cold wax to give it a matte look and tactile feel.
