A magpie finds many treasures
Finds the shiny stuff and brings it back to its home, proud with its glittering steal.
And opp shops hold gold for those who look.
As I peruse opp shops, I see treasures of all descriptions.
From seashells to nana sweaters and flowers that gather dust
Someone else’s trash is someone else’s treasure.

Like a magpie, I’ve taken to the kitchen sink when creating this artwork with a combination of fluid and impasto acrylics. In some places the paint is thin and watery, in others it is thick enough for me to dabble with etching. Artist-quality acrylic paints, ink and glitter were used.
My piece has the grounding of some figurative work (red flowers) but the rest is untethered abstract forms. I’ve deliberately played with many brushes to get the results I wanted – some bigs are graffiti-like smudgy, other bits are wavy. In some places I’ve drawn ink roughly with a paintbrush.
