Young Ethiopians are incredibly entrepreneurial. Many start street stalls, many find work in the closest city - all to scrape together that extra cash for a pair of sandals or to help feed their families. However, we found a clever young group springing their sideshow talents on the odd tourist that happened to come their way. My vehicle came flying around a corner on the hill just outside of Konso. Here they were, perfectly positioned, wobbling around on stilts and ready to dazzle us. We had to stop - we just couldn't pass up this encounter with these local boys who were pretty darned proud of their side hustle. "Photo-me-you-pay?" they said, grinning. I had to oblige. They were brilliant and they worked us pesky tourists over for the dollars. Well deserved.
